How to Write a Blog Post

How to Write a Blog Post
A STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO WRITING A BLOG POST
FIND YOUR TOPIC

Delve deep inside yourself to find a topic that will be interesting to you but be relatable to the audience. You want your audience to be intrigued by your passion and your topic, so be sure to connect with people using experiences, research, and humor. You already have a blog going, so you have a basic field that you talk about. Look into sides of it you have never though of. For instance, this is a marketing blog, so we will address something that has to do with marketing. At the same time, we don’t want to sound totally like business nerds, so we think of some piece of information everyone could use, like how to build a Facebook page for your business. Sure, not all people have their own business, but if you empower them, it’s more likely to happen.

CREATE A LIST

Bullet points are lifesavers when it comes to blog posts. You can find five or six different things to say about your topic and bullet them out. From there, you can add your sources to the list, keeping it organized and knowing where to put this quote or that statistic.

BUILD YOUR LINKS

People like knowing the facts, it helps build trust, so when you have solid sources linked in your blog post, you’re more likely to be credible. Of course, these links also need to be trustworthy sites… No one wants to click on a link on your site and see an explosion of spam and pop-up windows. You should know the article and make sure it is from a credible source before linking to it.

MAKE A ROUGH DRAFT

I know, rough drafts seem like a thing of the past, but it is absolutely essential that you fill in your post with entertaining stories, quizzical facts, and contemplative questions and READ THROUGH IT AGAIN. I can’t begin to tell you the craziness that can sometimes get jumbled on the paper or in the screen. Sometimes your brain thinks a lot faster than you can type and the written words just don’t make sense. Check for spelling errors, grammar errors, misspellings of names, and other common errors like word misuse.

FINALIZE, BABY.

The final and last step. If you see an area of your blog post that sounds like “Bueller…. Bueller….” then pack a punch with it, add an interesting fact or quick joke. If you think your post is too long, take out some unnecessary information. Now would also be an appropriate time to look for some imagery to add to your post.

ADD THE IMAGES.

People are so much more likely to click on a blog post when they see an intriguing photo associated with it. Find a photo that’s not cheesy. Find a photo that is beautiful and that makes sense with the content. I would recommend taking your own photos and editing them quickly – contrast, brightness, saturation. Make them pop while also being easy on the eyes.

THAT JUST ABOUT BAKES THE CAKE

Now all you do is sit back and watch your views roll in. Be sure to take a look at your analytics and see how your visitors got to your site, as this shows valuable paths to pursue marketing.

AND DON’T FORGET – HAVE FUN!

You started a blog for a reason, right? It makes you happy to share your valuable thoughts, opinions, and experiences, and people are looking to connect more than ever now. So, have fun writing your blog and always stay passionate.
